Barbie wants to be an only dog so she can soak up all the attention that she DIDN"T get when she was in TN with the neglectful owners. Not only did they neglect her health but they broke her spirt. BIO: Barbie would make a wonderful dog for a retired person. She is very laid back and just happy sleeping away the day in a nice sunny spot. I have a year and a half old Australian Cattle Dog/ Blue Heeler Mix. He's a super loving dog, that we have really found out, he needs a friend. So if you have another dog that is a plus. He really needs a lot of one-on-one time which is most of my reason for giving him up. I work two jobs and don't have the time to fully train this dog and my girlfriend doesn't have the patience. He is a gorgeous dog, on the smaller side, which are most dingo mixes. I got him from a shelter in WV a day away from being euthinized at a kill shelter. He needs quite a bit of work like more house training, he's getting it though, love and a yard is a must. He knows sit, stay, and quiet (for night time). Ohh and he loves pillows. He likes to sleep on his dog bed, with his head on a pillow like a person, cracks us up. He also is very vocal. If he is tired he will moan, if he is excited he will do a little squeek. Very vocal, again like most dingo mixes, not a huge barker for the most part. Anyways, we will charge a small rehoming fee to make sure he get the great home he deserves and he comes with his toys, bed, and what's left of his food. I hate to see this guy go, he will be a great dog someday. He is up to date on shots, and was neutered about a month ago.

You see them all the time. Ads looking for prospective new owners for pets. Good hearted pet owners who aren't looking for compensation, just a safe new place for their beloved pet. The headline reads: Free to Good Home.

Only, many times these owners are taken advantage of by anything BUT a good home.

Just some of the threats to free pets:

* "Bunchers" that collect free or cheap pets to sell to laboratories. Microchipping or tattooing your pets before giving them up can discourage this as labs generally won't accept pets with permanent ID.
* Puppy mills and other indiscriminate breeders. Neuter your pets prior to giving them away to ensure that they do not live a life of pain and suffering in crates or kennels as breeder dogs.
* Dog fighters who use the dogs for bait or training. Call references including vet references, VISIT THE HOME, have an adoption agreement and be sure to follow up on the adoption. Call your local humane society prior to placing your pet for adoption and find out where and who to look out for in your area. Dog fighting is a real problem.
* Animal hoarders who collect free pets. Animal hoarders have a mental condition. They are not aware that they are not providing proper care for their pets and often feel that they are "rescuing" the pets. This can be prevented by again, doing a home visit, checking vet references for all the pets on the property if you feel there is a problem.
* BAD or abusive pet owners. Again, check references, call vet records, make sure you have an adoption agreement, check on the dog post adoption.

If you are rehoming your pet, please do not offer it as "free" to good home. We do not suggest collecting a fee for yourself as this may be perceived as "selling." Rather, we think it's a great idea to ask for a fee that you can donate to the shelter or charity of your choice!

These wonderful faces belong to Bladen County Animal Control in Elizabethtown, NC a very small shelter in a rural part of the state. Unfortunately we don't get a lot of help from the community and we take in lots of strays and owner surrenders. The rescues that we currently deal with are full at this time and can't help us, so we are looking for some outside help. If there are any rescues out there who can take in a few of our dogs or cats, boy would that be a blessing in disguise and we would glady welcome you. As a 501c3 rescue you can pull our companions for free. I adopted my dog and cat from out of state and they have been the best loyal companions I could have ever asked for. These babies just need a second chance, they need somoene who will believe in them and provide unconditional love and compassion. The weekend of November 21st and 22nd, Starfish To the sea Animal Rescue will be having an adoptathon in an attempt to find quality homes for the animals in our care. Our focus at this event will be our small animals- some of which have been with us for over a year! We need foster and adoptive homes for guinea pigs and rabbits at this time. We will have information on guinea pig and rabbit care and can help you with any questions you may have if you have been considering adding one of these guys to your family.

Making an appearance we may also have our declawed/neutered Van mix cat, Tally or some adoptable dogs, and we'll have tons of animal themed magnets for cars for sale as a fundraiser. We are also selling graphite pet portraits as a fundraiser- interested parties can sign up at the event and the first 5 are guaranteed to be ready in time for Christmas!

We are accepting donations for our small animals: cages (for guinea pigs), dog crates (for bunnies), high quality food, pine chip bedding, newspapers for cage lining, toys, produce (grocery/walmart gift cards accepted!) and other supplies. We will be able to write a receipt for your taxes for any donations either cash or in-kind as we are a registered 501(c)(3) non profit charity.

Please come to PETCO in Richland Town Center, Johnstown on November 21st from 12-3pm or the 22nd from 3-6pm and support our rescue! We fill an important gap in this area being the only rescue that regularly helps small mammals. Without adopters, fosters or supporters, however, we cannot accept new animals- we need you! Our bunnies and guinea pigs are all vetted- the rabbits are even neutered and microchipped! Adoption fees for rabbits are reduced to $25 at this time and guinea pigs are available right now with NO adoption fee. We require an application and a home visit to be sure that you are prepared to add a new member (or two) to your family- our pets are NOT available as Christmas gifts.

Please adopt a shelter dog.. Their only hope is you. When the pound gets full dogs get put to sleep to make room for the new dogs. If you adopt you will help keep the shelter from getting full. You will be saving not only the life of your new dog, but one in the shelter as well.

Dogs are put down with a heart stick!!

Adoption fee $130 this pays for spay/neutering, parvo distemper shot, rabies shot, and a license, If dog is already spayed or Neutered his/her adoption fee is only $50.

I recently purchased a lab. female and was led to beleive that she was spay. When in reality she was preg.

So I worked with my vet to do EVERYTHING needed to make these pups the best they could be. The mother had a very difficult labor and had to go to the emergency hospital in the middle of the night due to the labor ceasing midway through delivery. The cost has gotten very expensive and am asking to recover my out of pocket costs. I am willing to show my bill of sales to show my accumulated costs. 6mo old german sheperd/golden retriever mix puppy needs new home. She is very friendly, playful and good with children. She is 40pds now and will most likely get to between 60-80pds fully grown. She is doing very well with being house broken but still has occasional accidents. We are giving her up because she needs a home where she will have room to run.
