Warning for any bands trying to book shows at McGarvey's Bar & Grill. Owner is very unprofessional!!! We are a national act from Toronto. After many messages back and forth, last February we reached agreed terms for a show. We were to play a Halloween themed show there this month. We paid for 3 (non refundable) hotel rooms in Altoona. As we got closer to October, we kept reaching out to the owner with simple questions about the stage and acceptable props. No response. A third party who was involved told us "The owner, Richard, said he will contact you guys within 48 hrs". No response. Next was, "His Instagram account is not working, try this e-mail". Again, no response. "Try his cell number". Several messages, no response. Bottom line, if this guy tells you your band is on the calendar, make darn sure it is posted on their events page. Otherwise, you are probably not really booked and may end up wasting any upfront marketing and accommodation dollars.
